Finished Objects

Lucky you I get to show off two finished objects today!  This is what I get for forgetting about a few pictures on the camera :D


With some leftover Lamb's Pride and new Malabrigo I held them together and did seed stitch until I ran out of Lamb's Pride.  :)  When I stitched them together I flipped one side so it has a lovely twist to it.

Fawn Poncho by Tiny Owl Knits

This poncho has been in my queue for awhile now and I finally had the desire to order up some yarn and knit it.  What had put me off for a bit was the colorwork, but now that I'm sneaking in more projects under my belt with colorwork I felt confident.  Or at least confident enough to give it a whirl.  I enjoy colorwork, I don't enjoy colorwork when it's on one side.  The puckering drove me insane despite how loose I let the yarn be behind the work or how much I tried to keep the tension even.  In the end I had to nitpick around some of the edges to make it lay flat and then embroider the rest in with scrap yarn. 

I forwent the super bulky yarn mostly because I couldn't find any colors that I liked from KnitPicks.  So instead I bought more than enough yarn in worsted weight, used size 8 needles and used mostly the size med/large numbers in the pattern.  The biggest difference i made was in adding 4-5" at the bottom measuring from the bottom of the armhole. 

So I am super excited to wear this for Thanksgiving next week!  :)  The only downside is that I pushed my wrist and it now hurts...I will definitely need to temper my knitting obsession a tiny bit, or at least just quit when it hurts instead of pushing forward.

Fall means apples and fairies

A couple weekends ago my husband picked a bunch of apples off the bottom branches of our tree.  I have finally gotten around to making something with them!

Instead of making a regular pie I found a recipe for Deep Dish Apple Pie.  My top crust is definitely better than normal, I only had to fumble about with the edges  We had it as dessert after lunch today and of course my husband gave his standard answers of "The crust is tough" and "Oh it's terrrrrrrible ;) "  Which of course all equate to it's pretty good.  My daughter, bless her sweet heart, very nicely told me "You're pretty and you make pretty pie".  :D

For the past few days I have been crocheting a fairy doll for my daughter.  What made this project take a little longer is all the darn hair.  O.o  I mean really, it wasn't so much a pain in the butt, there was just so much of it to make.  So I cheated a bit and did some of it in the funny swirls and the rest sewn up to make it look like it's in a ponytail.

I used a free pattern from Petite Purls (a wonderful resource for free knitting and crochet patterns!) titled "Margarita". 

The only part of this pattern I had trouble with were the legs.  I'm not really sure why but every time I went to make them, I always ended up with a different looking second one.  After 6 failed attempts I said screw it and improvised some simpler ones :D  This project was fun because I was able to use up lots of leftover scrap yarn from various projects.

This upcoming weekend I am looking forward to picking up more tulle to make a witch tutu skirt for Little Miss' costume, more yarn for various crochet projects (obsession now I tell you) and taking some relaxing time.

Crisp and cool

I could do without the cloudy, but the chilly weather is making me really happy.  Especially because I am hoping to break this bad boy out.....

My finished Tourist Sweater

It looks like a huge project but honestly it didn't take me too terribly long to knit.  Yay for chunky yarn and big needles!  For this project I used Aslan Trends Del Cerro in natural and US size 9 needles.  I knit the size XS and it came out much longer than I had anticipated which is just fine with me!  Too often I will knit something that says tunic and it isn't tunic length at all.

I love the design of the kangaroo pocket with the buttons still running down the side.  In fact the buttons were my favorite feature of this sweater when I was deciding what to knit.  When I was all finished I didn't want just any old buttons and though wood buttons would look best against the cream/natural yarn.  On Etsy I found cute driftwood buttons and they are fantastic!

I was slightly torn on how to do the sleeves.  I love the look of the longer sleeve but I also know that I'm constantly pushing up my sleeves and getting warm and they're tricky.  But I also knew that when I try to do 3/4" sleeves they never quite turn out right.  Somehow with a weird combination of measuring and miscalculation I got it just right.  Imagine that!  :D

Overall I am very happy with how the sweater turned out and am looking forward to enjoying a fall/winter wearing it!

Crossed the finish line

Well folks, it's official!  I have finished my Olympic knitting challenge with days to spare.  This year I challenged myself to a pair of color work knee high socks.  I wanted to improve my color work skills and I'm pretty sure I accomplished that.  These socks really flew off the needles although I feel like the second ones took longer because I kept misreading the chart and having to rip back a needle or two and redo it. 

When I first saw this pattern my initial reaction was "I have to have these" and "Wow, it only takes that much yarn?"  I have enough yarn leftover to make several hexipuffs for my Beekeeper's Quilt so it's a double win.

I do not have a great picture of the back yet.  It's a little difficult to photograph your calves by yourself.  :)

I really think I could have knit the entire sock on size 2 needles.  You can't see it from here, but my left toe is a little loosey.  This pattern was nicely written, it was easy to follow and even if I hadn't been against the clock, I think it would have been fast anyhow.  :D

FO's Custom and otherwise

My hexipuff rush has been slowed by a lack of filling.  So to entertain myself I knit a lamb washcloth and finally photographed a couple of things I have been toying with.

What I loved about knitting this washcloth is that a few years ago when I tried the loopy stitch I was thoroughly confused.  This time however it seemed to click and voila!  I have a fun loopy lamb.

With some leftover yarn I tested out an owl cable pattern for fingerless mittens.

He needs some button eyes but they turned out super cute and I can't wait until cooler weather to sport them.

I also made a fun little bracelet knitting a longer I-cord and flower.
