Pup update and running
After a few hours at the vet yesterday Ein was allowed to come home and their theory is that he has a gas bubble. The X-rays and blood work didn't come back with any concerns. He was sent home with medicine and anti-vomit food and with the warning that since he was still coming off sedation to make sure he didn't fall down any stairs and cautioning he would be out of it for some time. I felt bad for the guy because he didn't have the complete cognition to even jump into the car and looked a little lost on what to do. Once home he was eager to chase the kitties but only a few steps and he was too stubborn to just lay down and nap. Luckily by evening and after two small meals he seemed clear of any after effects of the sedative and bounded about happily barking at cats, begging to play fetch and hopping onto the couch for some snuggles. We're on day 2 and he hasn't barfed and I'm hoping that I will continue to have good things to report to the vet tomorrow when I call to check in.
This morning I hit the Y and did 3.5 miles on the treadmill. It went about as well as it always does although I did walk a little bit more in the middle for a quarter mile and then for the complete last half mile as a cool down. I found myself at one point just totally in the zone and staring at the wall and just going. It was kind of nice to just be so in the moment. What sucks is when you are distracted and keep almost falling off the treadmill because your body is no longer in sync. :D
My playlist today had....
"Bodies" by Drowning Pool
"Roll Away the Stone" by Mumford and Sons
"Fergalicious" by Fergie
"Let's Get Retarded" by the Black Eyed Peas
"Charioteers" by Social Studies
"Got your money" by ODB
"Faith" by Limp Bizkit
"Rehab" by Amy Winehouse
....and I can't remember the last few songs. Not a bad mix for running today!

Homecoming 5K
This morning I participated in another 5K run with my girlfriend! It was really interesting this time around because we had a little experience under our belt.
Things that were different:
We "warmed up" at the indoor track by walking a couple of laps.
It was half an hour earlier start time but warmer (not that 5 degrees warmer makes a difference when it's 30-35 degrees outside)
Not run on a walking trail, but on the soccer field and grassy/woodsy areas around the campus
No water hands outs! What the heck?
I dressed exactly the same for this 5K because the weather was going to be similar and I found myself sweating after 10 minutes. It was that uncomfortable hot yuck feeling when you just want to tear off all your layers so you can at least get a breeze on your skin. My yellow long sleeved has a tiny pocket on the side seam where I was able to hide my key fob and I'm already used to holding my phone as I run so we found a good place to toss our sweaters and continued on. I admit that when we started out I felt really good about it and was like "Yeah, I got this!" Maybe half a mile into it when I realized it was going to be all terrain running I was like "Oh crap". :)
What we both found interesting about this race is that there were no good markings to tell how far you've gone so for me at least I felt like we were just running in circles (which we were; the race looped through and over itself a few times). I think this and the terrain and just not having been as dedicated to running this past month as before made for what felt like more walking. But in reality we both finished at 36:10 which is about on par from our last 5K. We both surmised that while we took more walking breaks, they were definitely shorter breaks while last time we look less walking breaks but for longer stretches. Either way we were both very proud of ourselves for finishing the 5K, doing better than we expected and hey, we got tee shirts!
I'm still not a big fan of long distance running, but I do revel in the fact that 3 miles is not impossible for me. Running a half-marathon or even a marathon is probably something that I will never aim to do, but we shall see. Heck, I never thought I'd be doing a 5K either :)
To wrap up here are some songs that helped me along my run this morning
"Americano" by Lady Gaga
"Umbrella" by Rihanna
"Let's Get Retarded" by Black Eyed Peas
"Dog Days are Over" by Florence and the Machine
"The Next Messiah" by Jenny Lewis
And the rest are a blur :)

Wednesday Run
This morning I hit the Y again for my last 3 mile run before the 5k on Saturday. I managed in about 33 minutes but I kind of cheat. Throughout my run I take about 3 water breaks at mile 1, 2 and then at 2.5 The cheating parting is where it takes me 10-20 seconds to drink my water, do a few quick stretches and get back on the treadmill.
On my playlist today was....
"Ain't Going Down" by Garth Brooks
"Don't Stop Believin'" by Journey
"Drumming Song" by Florence and the Machine
"Let's Get Retarded" by Black Eyed Peas
"Little Willy" by Sweet
"Mary Jane Shoes" by Fergie
I know I'm missing a couple but that was a good run of shuffled songs. :)

Monday Playlist
I put in another 3.5 miles this morning on the treadmill in 42 minutes (walked the last half mile; ran 3 in 33 minutes). On my playlist this morning
Mumford & Sons "Awake my Soul" and "The Cave"
Gwen Stefani
AC/DC "Big Balls"
Lynard Skynard "Sweet Home Alabama"
Black Eyed Peas "Let's get Retarded"
Flogging Molly "Black Friday Rule"
Queen "We Will Rock You"
NIN "Closer"
Cake "Going the Distance"
That list doesn't seem long enough but even going back through my playlist isn't help jog my memory. Hm. The one good thing about running on the treadmill is catching up on the big plays I missed from football yesterday. The bad thing is when I go to turn my head and practically fall off said treadmill because where my head moves my body moves. Eep.
